3 ways to reduce stationery waste in the office
If you work in an office, you know how easy it can be to waste paper products. While going through your day, you are likely unaware of exactly how much you are using in terms of stationery, post-its, cups and other items throughout the day. This can be a problem both for the environment and the business itself – why frequently spend money on items that people are barely using before being tossed away? If you want your company to be as cost-effective as possible, eliminating paper waste is a great way to begin the process.
Here are a few tips to help prevent squandering office stationery:
- Appoint a supervisor: If there is somebody in the office who monitors the paper use, it will be much more in control. If there isn't somebody in your workspace with this responsibility, be sure to bring up the idea to your boss. This will also help the office keep track of the most and least-used supplies that will need to be reordered.
- Create awareness: Don't be afraid to start an environmental campaign in the office. If people are made aware of their own wasteful paper practices, they will be much more likely to adjust accordingly and use up less stationery on a regular basis.
- Reuse paper: One of the biggest ways that people waste paper is by only using one side of it. It is especially important, particularly with expensive stationery, to write on both sides before putting it into the recycling. Once every possible inch of space is used up, you can move on to a fresh sheet.
